DIPLOMA IN PHYSIOTHERAPY
Graduate from Diploma in Physiotherapy will become a physiotherapist. Physiotherapy is a part of healthcare science. Physical therapy (or physiotherapy) often abbreviated PT. PT is concerned with identifying and maximizing the quality of life and movement potential within the spheres of promotion, prevention, diagnosis, treatment/intervention and rehabilitation. PT will also be involved in providing back care education, career’s education, electrotherapy, manual therapy and hydrotherapy.
Electrotherapy involves treatment methods such as ultrasound, interferential therapy, laser and short wave diathermy. Manual therapy involves mobilisation, manipulation, massage technics, therapeutic exercises, and rehabilitation after surgery and advices in preventive methods. Physiotherapist works in hand with doctors, nurses and other medical staffs. Obtaining physiotherapy diploma is a initial step to be a physiotherapist.
Career in physiotherapy is focused in curing physical function of a patient. As a physiotherapist you must be well versed in body parts functions and injuries and the recovering process which is needed and suitable for a patient.
Usually, some private institutions require being Malaysian citizen (not all) to study Diploma in Physiotherapy. Candidates must be also single, this requirement is not compulsory. The age gap is between 17-25. Minimum requirement is SPM with pass 6 subjects including Bahasa Malaysia, and 2 credits. Candidates must physically and mentally fit.
If attached with government a physiotherapist is medical staff Grade U29. Job description of physiotherapist’s arrive at a diagnosis and establish a management plan and incorporate the laboratory results as well as the results of imaging studies, if necessary. PT management includes prescription of or assistance with specific exercises, manual therapy, education, manipulation and other interventions. At the end of the day there is not much difference whether attached with government or private.
Physiotherapists also works with sports organisations as athletes need care to perform better. Furthermore their service required in old folks home to maintain good health due to old age.
